During the Autumn Season 2023 the KSO offers a Jaakko Kuusisto Ticket Package.

JAAKKO KUUSISTO TICKET PACKAGE

At the beginning of a new era the KSO honors the life and work of its previous Chief Conductor Jaakko Kuusisto as well as the artistic journey the KSO had together with him. The Season Series concerts in September form a Mini Series around his works. The package includes three Season Concerts highlighting three different compositions – the symphony, the violin concerto and movie music.

The Jaakko Kuusisto Package includes the following concerts:

Thu 7.9. Call of the Sea
Jaakko Kuusisto: Symphony Op. 39
His only symphony and final composition. Premiered in June 2022 by the Minnesota Orchestra and conductor Osmo Vänskä, who commissioned the work from Kuusisto.

Thu 14.9. Through the Looking Glass
Jaakko Kuusisto: Violin Concerto
Commissioned by and composed for Elina Vähälä with whom he premiered the concerto in 2012 with Lahti Symphony. Pete Townshend of The Who described the work as ‘a wonderful adventure, crazy in places, but most delightful’.

Thu 28.9. A Tale of Starlight
Jaakko Kuusisto: Music from the movie Here Beneath the North Star
The new Finnish film-adaption of Väinö Linna’s famous book Here Beneath the North Star premiered in 2009 (director Timo Koivusalo). Kuusisto composed the music for it while also acting as the Concert Master for Lahti Symphony. He considered the work as an inspirational challenge since the storyline was very familiar to Finnish people and was based on significant events in the history of Finland.
