The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra’s online concert Seduced by Opera on 8 April, 2021 at 7 pm introduces students of Vocal Arts and Classical Singing at the School of Music and Dance / Savonia University of Applied Sciences. The programme consists of opera ensembles from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s beloved operas such as Idomeneo, Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Cosi fan Tutte.
The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra’s online concert Taavi and the Giants of Romanticism on 25 March, 2021 at 7 pm introduces emotional pieces from the Romantic Era. The livestreamed concert is conducted by Taavi Oramo, a multitalented musician and also the tenor soloist in Hector Berlioz’s song cycle Les nuits d´été. The concert ends with Franz Schubert’s Unfinished symphony.
Jaakko Kuusisto will continue his tenure as Chief Conductor of the KSO. His contract has been extended until the summer 2023. Kuusisto was appointed as the artistic director of the KSO in August 2018 with a three-year contract.
The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra consists of 44 musicians. The KSO musicians represent well over 10 different nationalities and therefore the orchestra’s working language is English. The Chief Conductor of the KSO is Jaakko Kuusisto. Atso Almila acts as the Second Conductor. In 2010 professor and maestro Jorma Panula was appointed as the orchestra’s Honorary Conductor.
The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra wants to introduce various audience groups to the world of music by organizing diverse concerts and special events. The main point is to give artistic experiences, to increase public awareness and knowledge of orchestral music and other forms of art music and also to develop people’s cultural competence.
