Behind the KSO Autumn 2022 season concerts there are stories about a secret language of Chinese women, a quest for finding the Holy Grail and Nutcracker and Mouse-King, a fairytail of Christmas time among others. In addition to international guests the audience can enjoy KSO’s own stars on stage. The autumn season program includes two Finnish premieres and we will meet also contempopary composers at the concerts.
On Thursday 12th of May and Friday 13th of May at 7 pm we will enjoy Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with 180 performers on the Kuopio Music Centre Concert Hall stage. The ensemble conducted by Alberto Hold-Garrido includes soloists Kaisa Ranta, Matthias Rexroth and Ville Rusanen and the choirs Vox Polaris, UEF Kuopio Student Choir, Vocal Ensemble Veljmiehet of the Male Choir Kuopio-Kvartetti and Children’s Choir of the Haapaniemi Elementary School.
On Wednesday 4th of May the audience will experience Symphonic Cinema for the first time in Finland. In the concert orchestral masterpieces are visualized into dramafilms, which will be edited live to the music by Dutch film director Lucas van Woerkum. The ensemble of the KSO and Jyväskylä Sinfonia conducted by Ville Matvejeff will perform Sergei Rachmaninov’s Island of Death and Maurice Ravel’s Daphnis & Chloé.
The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra consists of 44 musicians. The KSO musicians represent well over 10 different nationalities and therefore the orchestra’s working language is English. The Chief Conductor of the KSO is Jaakko Kuusisto. Atso Almila acts as the Second Conductor. In 2010 professor and maestro Jorma Panula was appointed as the orchestra’s Honorary Conductor.
The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra wants to introduce various audience groups to the world of music by organizing diverse concerts and special events. The main point is to give artistic experiences, to increase public awareness and knowledge of orchestral music and other forms of art music and also to develop people’s cultural competence.
Enjoy our concerts in YouTube. The orchestra's YouTube Channel introduces concerts by the KSO chamber music ensembles and individual musicians as well as the whole Kuopio Symphohy Orchestra. The concerts have been either recorded or livestreamed from Restaurant Maxim in Kuopio or at the orchestra’s home, ie. at the Kuopio Music Centre.
