Call for singers: new project choir performs Beethoven’s Ninth

The KSO and its Chief Conductor, Eugene Tzigane, are assembling a special Project Choir to perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the orchestra on Thursday, December 12th, 2024. The year 2024 marks the 200th Anniversary of the premiere of the Ninth. The deadline for applications is the 17th of March.

KSO’s Song of the Ice spectacle combines sounds of ice, story telling and dramatic lights

At the KSO’s season concert on Thursday 8th of February we will experience a concert, which includes a world premiere of Cantus Glacies composed by the evening’s conductor, Tuomas Hannikainen. The story of The Masque of the Red Death based on Edgar Allan Poe’s horror story and composed by Andre Caplet will be performed by the harp soloist Laura Hynninen and the actor Timo Torikka. After the intermission we will hear two Sibelius rarities.

Beethoven’s most famous symphony opens KSO season series of spring 2024

The KSO’s Spring 2024 Season Series will start on the 25th of January with the 5th symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven, the first rebellion of the Romantic era. The concert conducted by Eugene Tzigane includes also the symphony’s companion piece, Guillaume Connesson’s Flammenschrift. The soloist will be the luminous mezzosoprano Lilli Paasikivi, who will interpret Hector Berlioz’s delicate Les Nuits d’été.

Meet the Musicians

The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra consists of 44 musicians. The KSO musicians represent well over 10 different nationalities and therefore the orchestra’s working language is English. The Chief Conductor of the KSO is Jaakko Kuusisto. Atso Almila acts as the Second Conductor. In 2010 professor and maestro Jorma Panula was appointed as the orchestra’s Honorary Conductor.

Audience Outreach

The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra wants to introduce various audience groups to the world of music by organizing diverse concerts and special events. The main point is to give artistic experiences, to increase public awareness and knowledge of orchestral music and other forms of art music and also to develop people’s cultural competence.

Enjoy our concerts in YouTube. The orchestra's YouTube Channel introduces concerts by the KSO chamber music ensembles and individual musicians as well as the whole Kuopio Symphohy Orchestra.
