The spring season 2021 of the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra starts on Thursday 21st of January at 7 pm with a livestream concert The Legend of Cello. The soloist, cellist Arto Noras plays Jaakko Kuusisto’s Cello Concerto dedicated to Noras. The concert ends with the glorious 5th symphony of Sibelius conducted by the KSO Chief Conductor Kuusisto.
The KSO concerts at the Kuopio Music Centre are cancelled until the end of the year 2020. The Regional State Administrative Agency of Eastern Finland published new guidelines on 1st of December restricting that the number of participants at public events must be limited to maximum 50 persons until the 1st of January 2021. The Legend of the Cello concert on 3rd of December at 7 pm. will be livestreamed on the KSO YouTube channel without any live audience.
On Friday 18th of December at 6 pm and 8 pm we can enjoy the sound of a vocal ensemble and a symphony orchestra, when the a cappella group Rajaton and the KSO will perform together on the Kuopio Music Centre stage. The two performances will include both beloved Christmas songs and surprise numbers.
The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra consists of 44 musicians. The KSO musicians represent well over 10 different nationalities and therefore the orchestra’s working language is English. The Chief Conductor of the KSO is Jaakko Kuusisto. Atso Almila acts as the Second Conductor. In 2010 professor and maestro Jorma Panula was appointed as the orchestra’s Honorary Conductor.
The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra wants to introduce various audience groups to the world of music by organizing diverse concerts and special events. The main point is to give artistic experiences, to increase public awareness and knowledge of orchestral music and other forms of art music and also to develop people’s cultural competence.
Enjoy our concerts in YouTube. The orchestra's YouTube Channel introduces concerts by the KSO chamber music ensembles and individual musicians as well as the whole Kuopio Symphohy Orchestra. The concerts have been either recorded or livestreamed from Restaurant Maxim in Kuopio or at the orchestra’s home, ie. at the Kuopio Music Centre.
