The KSO's Spring Season Concert Series will come to a grand end on the 16th of May with the sound of a great ensemble, as the KSO joins forces with the Oulu Sinfonia on the stage. In the concert, the songs from Gustav Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn series will be interpreted by the baritone Johannes Held. The concert will end with Richard Strauss' symphonic poem Symphonia Domestica conducted by Eugene Tzigane.

The KSO's season series concert on the 16th of April will offer the audience Baroque dance forms and charming early Viennese classicism. The KSO's concert on the 3rd of April offers a glimpse into the contradictory realities of the post-World War II world. The concert will open with Bohuslav Martinů's Overture, which reflects a new optimism. Senja Rummukainen, familiar to the Kuopio audience, will perform Mieczysław Weinberg's melodic Cello Concerto. The concert will end with Dimitri Shostakovich's satirical 9th Symphony conducted by Eugene Tzigane.

The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra consists of 44 musicians. The KSO musicians represent well over 10 different nationalities and therefore the orchestra’s working language is English. The Chief Conductor of the KSO is Jaakko Kuusisto. Atso Almila acts as the Second Conductor. In 2010 professor and maestro Jorma Panula was appointed as the orchestra’s Honorary Conductor.
The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra wants to introduce various audience groups to the world of music by organizing diverse concerts and special events. The main point is to give artistic experiences, to increase public awareness and knowledge of orchestral music and other forms of art music and also to develop people’s cultural competence.
Enjoy our concerts in YouTube. The orchestra's YouTube Channel introduces concerts by the KSO chamber music ensembles and individual musicians as well as the whole Kuopio Symphohy Orchestra. The concerts have been either recorded or livestreamed from Restaurant Maxim in Kuopio or at the orchestra’s home, ie. at the Kuopio Music Centre.
