The KSO’s Beyond the Veil of Reality concert on May 16th the subject of research is dreams, fairy tales and memories. In his work Hypnos from 2018, the French composer Matthieu Stefanelli wanted to look at the outer reaches of reality. Inspired by the Greek god of sleep, the music traverses the ephemeral landscape of the dream world with its often inexplicable joys and night-terrors.

As a true child prodigy, Erich Wolfgang Korngold wrote a series of piano pieces based on fairy tales at the age of only 11. The following year, at the age of 12, he orchestrated the piano pieces into Märchenbilder (Fairy Tale Pictures), which contains fantastic musical depictions of six fairy tales.

Sergei Rachmaninoff’s highly popular 3rd piano concerto is full of nostalgia, wistfulness, longing and passion. The soloist part of the concerto is technically very difficult, even declared the most difficult in the world. In Kuopio, it will be performed by the multi-awarded piano artist Olli Mustonen, whose early started, impressive career takes him to the main concert stages of the world, both as a piano soloist and chamber musician, and as a conductor and composer.

Before the concert, at 5:30 pm in Valohalli, a Pre-Talk event open to everyone is organized.
