The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra’s online concert represents a luminous Finnish jazz singer, Aili Ikonen, and her band. Aili’s song collection from her recent albums will now be premiered with a symphonic ensemble. The concert recorded recently at the Kuopio Music Centre Concert Hall is conducted by Jaakko Kuusisto.
Singer, composer and lyricist Aili Ikonen is one of the most in-demand jazz vocalists in Finland. In this concert Aili Ikonen will perform her own songs as well as a few carefully chosen pieces from other Finnish song composers. The symphonic arrangements are made by Finnish frontline musicians / arrangers such as Jaakko Kuusisto, Mikko Hassinen, Mikko Pellinen and Teemu Takanen.
Aili Ikonen has already had an exceptionally extensive career including three solo albums, impressive big band productions, Ella Fitzgerald interpretations as well as TV performances. She is acclaimed for her expressive and sensitive, yet powerful, interpretations. Aili has performed alongside with several Finnish top artists and has also been featured as a soloist by many prestigious orchestras such as Radio Symphony Orchestra, Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra. She is also a member of the vocal group Rajaton.
There will also be a pre-recorded interview with Aili Ikonen and conductor Jaakko Kuusisto by Katariina Kummala, the Director of the Kuopio Music Centre and the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra.
