Richard Dubugnon: Chamber Symphony No 2 Op. 77 (2017)
Bernhard Crusell: Horn Concerto
Robert Schumann: Symphony No 4 in d minor Op. 120 (1841)

Richard Dubugnon’s Chamber Symphony No. 2 is an energetic and richly coloured orchestral work in which modern musical language meets classical form. Dubugnon is known for his masterful orchestration, and here he creates a compact, tension‑filled, and surprising whole that keeps the listener engaged from beginning to end.

“Bernhard Crusell composed his horn concerto around the same time as his internationally known clarinet concertos. The virtuosic first movement contains clarinet‑like runs and wide leaps that truly challenge the soloist’s technique. The second movement, Romance cantabile, is a beautifully lyrical aria. The cheerful and energetic third movement, Rondo allegro, is full of quick and unexpected turns. Crusell’s concerto is an important addition to early‑Romantic horn repertoire and a highly significant historical Finnish wind concerto.”
Tommi Hyytinen

Robert Schumann’s Fourth Symphony is a Romantic masterpiece in which the four movements merge seamlessly into a single, tightly woven arc. The work grows from a dark‑hued opening toward a radiant finale, carrying with it Schumann’s characteristic passion, poetry, and inner glow. This symphony is a journey toward light – filled with drama, tenderness, and the composer’s unmistakable imagination.

Duration approx. 1 hour 30 minutes including interval.

The concert is included in the Season Series Ticket and Mini Series Ticket 2.
