Professor Emerita of Ämminkology, Cécile E.E. Orblin, guides you into the world of the peculiar creatures hidden within our cities. Do you already know the riikki, the kuulio, or the immi? You have surely noticed signs of them: overflowing rubbish bins, the clicking sounds from traffic lights, or streetlamps that mysteriously go dark. Research on these creatures—known as ämminkäiset—is rapidly growing both in Finland and internationally. Now Finnish spotters also have the chance to attend a lecture by the leading expert in the field. At the same time, you will hear brand‑new theme compositions for various ämminkäinen species by Mr. A. Auvinen, the official five‑star composer of the International Society for Ämminkäis Research (ISAR).

The concert is based on Tuomas Kärkkäinen’s children’s book Suomen ämminkäiset värikuvina (S&S 2021).
