The concert will launch the festivities of the Kuopio 250th Anniversary.

The concert is the opening for the 250th anniversary celebration of the city of Kuopio. The programme combines festive Finnish and European tunes from the present and past centuries. The first performance of the overture and fanfare by Atso Almila, composer and 2nd conductor of the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, will put you in a wonderful festive mood. Finnish Rhapsody by Robert Kajanus containing Finnish folk songs and polka rhythms, is national-romantic orchestral music at its best. Aim, a guitar concerto composed by Jukka Tiensuu in 2005, will be performed by Ismo Eskelinen, who has ventured out into the world from Northern Savo. Eskelinen describes Aim as a journey from the darkness of the morning through the heat of the afternoon and evening parties into the peacefulness of the night. The concert ends with Antonin Dvořak’s sunny and cheerful 8th Symphony from the Romantic era.
