Kriikku interprets Jukka Tiensuu’s Puro at season concert
On Thursday 9th of November at 6 pm we will welcome the internationally best known Finnish clarinetist Kari Kriikku as the soloist of the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra. He will interpret Jukka Tiensuu’s piece Puro at the KSO season concert. The programme includes also the Ukrainian-Canadian Larysa Kuzmenko’s Fantasy on a Theme by Beethoven from the year 2020 and Franz Schmidt’s 3rd symphony. The concert held at the Kuopio Music Centre Concert Hall will be conducted by Daniel Raiskin.
There is hardly a contemporary Finnish work for clarinet that has not been written for and/or first performed by Kari Kriikku. This is also the case of Jukka Tiensuu’s clarinet concerto Puro (i.e. “pure” in Italian but also “stream” in Finnish). This brilliant and technically challenging piece is a strong favourite also of many other soloists in addition to Kriikku.
Ukrainian-Canadian composer Larysa Kuzmenko sets the tone for the evening with Fantasy on a Theme by Beethoven, inspired by the composer’s first symphony. The piece was commissioned by the Calgary Philharmonic for Beethoven’s 250th anniversary.
The concert ends with Franz Schmidt’s 3rd symphony, which was composed in answer to a competition for a symphony ”in the spirit of Schubert”. The concert will be conducted by Daniel Raiskin, who revisits Kuopio again.
Tickets: 33 € / 27 € senior citizens and groups min. 20 persons / 11 € children under the age of 16 and students / 4 € concert day discount ticket for students and young people under the age of 20. Prices include the Kuopio Music Centre service fee 2 € / ticket. The service fees vary depending on the place of purchase.
