Finnish premiere of Avner Dorman’s piano concerto conducted by the composer on 6th of October

Mackenzie Melemed as the soloist of KSO

At the KSO season concert on the 6th of October at 7 pm we will hear the Finnish premiere of Avner Dorman’s Piano Concerto no 3 conducted by Dorman himself. The soloist will be the luminous Mackenzie Melemed, who commissioned the concerto. Before the premiere we will enjoy two symphonies from the different time periods: Symphony E flat major of C.Ph.E. Bach and Symphony in C of Igor Stravinsky.

At the KSO concert on the 6th of October we will hear first time in Finland Avner Dorman’s Third Piano Concerto, which was composed in 2021 and commissioned by Mackenzie Melemed and Diana R. Glimm. It expresses extreme emotions and sudden changes, from the depth of despair to complete ecstasy.

”I would describe the style of my Piano Concerto no 3 as post-modern Sturm und Drang”, Dorman tells. Also Bach’s symphony, which will start the concert, is from the Sturm und Drang period composed in 1775. After Bach, Stravinsky’s Symphony in C composed in 1940, will suprise us with rhythms and so will also the concerto of Dorman.

The American Mackenzie Melemed won the Maj Lind Piano Competition 2017 and charmed the Finnish audience. Nowadays he lives in Finland. Melemed has received several awards and performs around the world. A native of Israel now living in the United States, Avner Dorman draws on a variety of cultural and historical influences in composing. Dorman’s music has garnered numerous awards and prizes. In addition of composing he also works as a conductor.

Before the concert at 6.30 pm there will be an artist meeting open for all at the Kuopio Music Centre Hall of Light, where the audience can hear more about the evening’s program and the artists.

The duration of the concert is about 1 hour 30 minutes, including interval.

Tickets: 33 € / 27 € senior citizens and groups min. 20 persons / 11 € children under 16 and students / 4 € concert day discount ticket for students and youth under 20 years. Prices include the Kuopio Music Centre service fee 2 € / ticket. The service fees vary depending on the place of purchase.
