Virtuoso Ronald Brautigam on stage with KSO on 16th of September

The program introduces music of Brahms’ friends

On Thursday 16th of September at 7 pm we will enjoy the performance of piano virtuoso Ronald Brautigam and the KSO at the Kuopio Music Centre Concert Hall. He will play the popular piano concerto of Robert Schumann. The orchestra will be conducted by Eugene Tzigane and the program includes Joseph Joachim’s Overture to Hamlet and Albert Dietrich’s Symphony in D minor.

In the year 1853 in Düsseldorf there was a gathering of close friends: composers Johannes Brahms and Robert Schumann, violinist Joseph Joachim and Schumann’s student Albert Dietrich. The KSO season concert on the 16th of September introduces music of Brahms’ friends.

The program has been planned by Eugene Tzigane, who has studied the performance practices of Romantic repertoire. “The cornerstone of the style and a defining characteristic of my own interpretations is a liberal use of tempo modifications that emphasize and delineate the musical structure.  Unlike in the Modern mainstream style, regularity of tempo and smoothness of execution are not the goal.  In the Espressivo Style, each phrase has its own Melos, or true nature, that reveals itself and its tempo only intuitively”, he says.

The concert begins with Joachim’s programmatic Overture to Hamlet. Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor will be interpreted by virtuoso Ronald Brautigam, one of Holland’s most respected musicians, who has received numerous awards including the Dutch Music Prize and a 2010 MIDEM Classical Award for the best concerto recording. The concert ends with Dietrich’s Symphony in D minor. The work is a diamond in the rough and deserves greater attention.

The duration for the concert is about 1 h 45 min with an intermission.
