Orchestra’s own star interprets gorgeous trombone concerto first time in Finland on 28th of September

KSO’s Tale of Starlight concert conducted by Ruut Kiiski

At the KSO’s Tale of Starlight concert on Thursday 28th of September at 6 pm we will enjoy the Finnish premiere of Dani Howard’s colourful trombone concerto, when the orchestra’s own principal trombonist Jonathan Roskilly will be the soloist of the evening. At the Kuopio Music Centre’s Concert Hall we will hear also Jaakko Kuusisto’s music from the movie Here Beneath the North Star and Swedish Elfrida Andrée’s 2nd symphony. The orchestra is conducted by Ruut Kiiski.

At the KSO’s Tale of Starlight concert on the 28th of September we can hear and see many surprises and firsts. The talended up-and-comer, Ruut Kiiski, makes her Kuopio conducting debut in the starry program. It begins with the third part of the KSO autumn season’s tribute to Jaakko Kuusisto with his suite from the 2007 film Täällä pohjantähden alla (Here Beneath the North Star). Ruut Kiiski planned to complete the program with the rarity, Elfrida Andrée’s Second Symphony in A-minor.

The KSO’s own star Jonathan Roskilly will stun and awe the audience with the Finnish Premiere of British composer Dani Howard’s Trombone Concerto which has already been called an instant classic of our time. Roskilly, the principal trombonist of the KSO, describes the concerto as gorgeous, dramatic and colourful.

Born in Cheltenham, England, Roskilly began working in Kuopio in year 2022. He has studied trombone at the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama and at the Basel Music Academy. He lived in Switzerland for 10 years and played in several Central European orchestras.

Tickets: 33 € / 27 € senior citizens and groups min. 20 persons / 11 € children under the age of 16 and students / 4 € concert day discount ticket for students and young people under the age of 20. Prices include the Kuopio Music Centre service fee 2 € / ticket. The service fees vary depending on the place of purchase.
