Multitalented Taavi Oramo guests as conductor and soloist of the online concert 25th of March
KSO performs beautiful melodies of Berlioz and Schubert
The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra’s online concert Taavi and the Giants of Romanticism on 25 March, 2021 at 7 pm introduces emotional pieces from the Romantic Era. The concert livestreamed from the Kuopio Music Centre Concert Hall is conducted by Taavi Oramo, a multitalented musician and also the tenor soloist in Hector Berlioz’s song cycle Les nuits d´été. The concert ends with Franz Schubert’s Unfinished symphony.
The online concert of the KSO begins with Hector Berlioz’s (1803-1869) Les nuits d’été, one of the most popular and beloved orchestral song cycles of the Romantic era and in general with singers and audiences alike. The title was inspired by Shakespeare’s comedy of the same name but the actual texts are based on poems by Théophile Gautier, a fellow-countryman and a friend of the composer. The poems consider love from different angles: falling in love, loss of love, flirtation, desire and passion.
The soloist of the song cycle is Taavi Oramo who will also conduct the concert. This multitalented musician has acted as a conductor, a singer, an electronic musician, a clarinetist and a producer in Finland and in Europe. The concert will end with Franz Schubert’s (1797-1828) Unfinished symphony. Despite of Schubert’s tragically short life span, he composed a tremendous amount of music. Symphony No 8, also known as the Unfinished, was not the only work the composer did not complete, but it has become one of his most popular creations.
The livestream concert will be published on the KSO’s YouTube Channel and the KSO’s website. The concert is available at the KSO’s YouTube Channel until the end of the spring season 2021. The concert will be livestreamed on the 25th of March in cooperation with Taustamarkkinat BGMT Oy.
