KSO plays also Guillaume Lekeu’s Adagio and Johan Svendsen’s 2nd symphony

On Thursday 20th of April at 7 pm at the KSO season concert we will enjoy Sergei Rachmaninov’s emotional 2nd piano concerto interpreted by the 2022 Maj Lind winner Piotr Pawlak. At the Kuopio Music Centre Concert Hall the KSO will perform also the Belgian Guillaume Lekeu’s melancholic Adagio and the Norwegian Johan Svensen’s romantic 2nd symphony. The orchestra will be conducted by Ari Rasilainen.

The Belgian Guillaume Lekeu is regarded as a highly talented composer, who died just one day after his 24th birthday. Lekeu composed about 50 pieces during his lifetime. The KSO season concert will be opened by his comforting Adagio for string orchestra.

Sergei Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 is often described as the greatest piano concerto ever written. In Kuopio it will be interpreted by the Polish Piotr Pawlak, who won the international Maj Lind piano competition last year. Pawlak has succeeded in many piano and organ competitions. He has graduated from the Music Academy of Gdansk and also from the university of Gdansk, where he studied mathematics.

The concert will end with the Norwegian Johan Svendsen’s charming Second Symphony from the year 1876. The music is full of beautiful and memorable melodies. The KSO will be conducted by Ari Rasilainen, who has visited Kuopio several times. During his long, international career, Rasilainen has also worked as a professor of conducting.

The duration of the concert is about 1 hour 40 minutes, including interval.

On the same day at 12 pm there will be an open rehearsal of the KSO at the Concert Hall and the orchestra will play a part of the evening’s program. The duration is about 35 minutes, free entrance.
