Beloved Nutcracker’s concert version ends the KSO season on 15th of December
Choir with singers from Lumit Art College and Sibelius Academy students on stage with KSO
On Thursday 15th of December at 7 pm we will enjoy the concert version of the beloved Nutcracker ballet at the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra’s final concert of the autumn season. Piotr Tschaikovsky’s ballet is based on the story where a Christmas toy, the Nutcracker, comes alive. On the Kuopio Music Centre’s Concert Hall stage we will see a choir consisting of the singers of the Lumit Art College and the University of the Arts Sibelius Academy’s Kuopio Unit with the KSO. The orchestra will be conducted by Kalle Kuusava.
The magical Nutcracker ballet is based on the story The Nutcraker and the Mouse King written by E.T.A. Hoffman. In the story the young heroine, Clara, is taken on a fairy-tale journey on Christmas night. She meets the army of mice, exotic visitors from faraway lands, and a prince turned into a nutcracker by a spell.
The concert version of the Nutcracker ballet will end the KSO autumn season 2022. In addition to the KSO the music is interpreted by the project choir of the Lumit Art College and Sibelius Acdemy Kuopio Unit. The choir has been rehearsed by Mari Koistinen.
The KSO is conducted by Kalle Kuusava, who has regularly visited the Finnish National Opera among others and has been conducting also in Savonlinna Opera Festival, Mariinsky Theater, Theater an der Wien and Monte Carlo Ballet.
The duration of the concert is about 1 hour 50 minutes, including interval.
