Firebird takes us to a world of fantasy at KSO season concert on 12th of October at 6 pm

Prokofiev’s Sinfonia concertante will be interpreted by rising star cellist Jonathan Roozeman

The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra’s season concert Fire Bird on Thursday 12th of October at 6 pm will take us to a fantasy world among Igor Stravinsky’s popular Firebird. The soloist will be the Finnish-Dutch cellist Jonathan Roozeman, who will interepret Sergey Prokofiev’s virtuosic Sinfonia Concertante. The orchestra will be conducted by the Chief Conductor Eugene Tzigane. The concert organized at the Kuopio Music Centre’s Concert Hall will be also livestreamed to the orchestra’s YouTube channel.

The concert begins with Sergei Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante interpreted by a rising cello star Jonathan Roozeman who is already establishing himself as a player of exceptional musical integrity. ”Sinfonia Concertante might feel like a tale from great Kievan Rus’ epic poem, Byliny. And like Ilya Muromets (the liberator of Kiev), our cello-hero musically embarks on quests through mysterious lands and fights mythic creatures”, tells the Chief Conductor Eugene Tzigane.

The concert of folk tales will be completed with the concert version of the complete ballet Firebird by Igor Stravinsky. Set in the magical garden of Kashchey the Deathless, the young Prince Ivan battles for the hand of a beautiful princess who is imprisoned there. With the help of the magical Firebird, Ivan is able to destroy Kashchey’s ’horcrux’ and life is returned to the land.

The concert will be livestreamed to the KSO YouTube channel.

Tickets: 33 € / 27 € senior citizens and groups min. 20 persons / 11 € children under the age of 16 and students / 4 € concert day discount ticket for students and young people under the age of 20. Prices include the Kuopio Music Centre service fee 2 € / ticket. The service fees vary depending on the place of purchase.
