KSO plays world premiere of Elfrida Andrée’s Varför och därför

At the KSO’s concert Through the Looking Glass on Thursday 14th of September at 6 pm we will hear rarities and Jaakko Kuusisto’s charming Violin Concerto. The concert organized at the Kuopio Music Centre Concert Hall begins with the world premiere of Elfrida Andrée’s Varför och därför and it ends with Alexander von Zemlinsky’s rarely performed 2nd symphony. The violin soloist will be Elina Vähälä and the orchestra is conducted by the KSO Chief Conductor Eugene Tzigane.

The Chief Conductor of the KSO, Eugene Tzigane has chosen fascinating rarities to the program of the season concert on the 14th of September. ”If we peer through the looking-glass, objects are inverted, appearing simultaneously familiar yet new. We hope that is your experience in this program of rare masterpieces”, he says. An unfairly neglected gem, a symphonic poem Varför och därför by Elfrida Andrée from 1887 will start the concert. The work has waited for its world premiere for 136 years.

Elina Vähälä returns to Kuopio to perform Jaakko Kuusisto’s thrillingly cinematic Violin Concerto which will be the second part of this Autumn’s tribute to the KSO’s former music director and chief conductor. The main course of the concert is Alexander Zemlinsky’s 2nd Symphony in Bb Major, a highly underrated piece from 1897. Taking inspiration from Brahms, Dvořák and his teacher Bruckner, this early work is like a romantic sojourn through the lush and occasionally dark Bohemian Woods.

On the same day, 14th of September the audience is invited to enjoy the KSO’s open rehearsal at 12 noon. We will hear a part of the evening’s concert program conducted by Eugene Tzigane. In addition, the audience may also enjoy a buffet lunch before or after the open rehearsal – lunch is served between 11 am and 2 pm at the Kuopio Music Centre restaurant Oodi at the Hall of Light, price 11€.

Concert tickets: 33 € / 27 € senior citizens and groups min. 20 persons / 11 € children under the age of 16 and students / 4 € concert day discount ticket for students and young people under the age of 20. Prices include the Kuopio Music Centre service fee 2 € / ticket. The service fees vary depending on the place of purchase.
