KSO concert on 14th of April reminds about climate crisis and also optimism

The Luminous Violin concert of the KSO strings on Thursday 14th of April at 7 pm starts with Johanna Almark’s Storm Warning inspired by current climate crisis. Latvian composer Peteris Vasks’ intensive violin concerto Distant Light will be interpreted by the Finnish violinist Elina Vähälä. The concert ends with a true classic, Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for strings. The orchestra is conducted by Erkki Lasonpalo.

The concert on 14th of April begins with Storm Warning, Johanna Almark’s piece premiered in year 2021 and inspired by the topic of today, climate crisis. Almark is one of Finland’s most versatile musicians: singer, orchestra and choral conductor, composer, arranger and violinist. During 2019 she was the artistic director for concerts and video productions included in the Climate Aid project.

Latvian composer Peteris Vasks describes his violin concerto Distant Light (1997) as ”a song, coming from silence and floating away into silence, full of idealism and love, at times melancholy, at times dramatic”. It has become a modern classic and many top violinists have taken it to their repertoire. The concerto is interpreted by Elina Vähälä, who belongs to the most internationally known violinists in Finland.

The concert ends with one of the biggest classics in the string literature, Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Serenade. Bright serenade is one of the most popular pieces of its’ composer. The KSO strings is conducted by Erkki Lasonpalo, who among others has held the position of Artistic Partner of the Mikkeli City Orchestra since 2017.

Tickets: 33 / 27 / 11 / 4 € concert day discount ticket for students and youth under 20 years. The prices include the Kuopio Music Centre service fee 2 € / ticket. The service fees vary depending on the place of purchase. The audience may purchase tickets with a discount of two tickets for the price of one to the Luminous Violin concert until 14th of April.
