Anton Bruckner: Symphony No 8

At latitude of 67 degrees North – in the middle of the magical North – lies Nordland County´s capital Bodø, Norway, also a twin town to the city of Kuopio, Finland. It is there you find every year the Nordland Music Festival – Nordland Musikkfestuke.

Based well north of the Arctic Circle, the Arctic Philharmonic is the world’s northernmost professional orchestra. The orchestra operates in two cities – Bodø and Tromsø – performing in various ensembles from chamber ensembles to sinfonietta and the full Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra also on tours around Northern Norway.

On Tuesday 9 August the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra will produce a Peace Concert at the Bodø Stormen Concert Hall as part of the Nordland Music Festival. APO’s Chief Conductor Christian Kluxen will lead one of the largest symphony orchestras that has ever played in Bodø: the Arctic Philharmonic together with the Kyiv Soloists as well as musicians from Norway and around the world, inlcuding musicians from the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, Finland. Close to a hundred musicians take the stage at the Stormen big Concert Hall.

This will be a spectacular concert, with the power of the arts and belief in a peaceful future. Bruckner’s symphonies are among the greatest pieces of music ever written. With his last completed symphony, he takes us on a journey through darkness and light, through despair, triumph and happiness.
