Kuopio’s 250th Anniversary Celebration culminates in a grand concert. The city of Kuopio’s 250th anniversary festivities reach their climax with a celebratory concert showcasing Northern Savonian talent in abundance. The evening opens with an overture composed by Atso Almila, commissioned as the theme piece for the jubilee year. From Kuopio City Theatre’s anniversary musical “The Perfect Recipe”, the audience will hear three songs specially arranged for orchestra for this occasion by Marko Hilpo.

Kuopio-born composer Antti Auvinen has also written a commissioned piece for the jubilee year, dedicated to fellow Kuopio native, percussion artist Mika Kallio, and the Kuopio Symphony. Auvinen is known for his composition style that expands traditional orchestral soundscapes, while Mika Kallio is recognized for his mastery of various cymbals and gongs.

The evening’s anchor work will be Jean Sibelius’s beloved Symphony No. 2.
