Giovanni Gabrieli: Sonata pian’e forte
Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber: Die Pauern Kirchfahrt
Johann David Heinichen: Concerto grosso
Antonio Vivaldi: Violin Concerto “Spring”
Georg Friedrich Händel: Water Music Suite No 2 in D major

The concert offers the audience the most colourful orchestral music of the Baroque era: birds singing, thunderstorms, peasants travelling to church, and sparkling fireworks! The grand opening number is Giovanni Gabrieli’s Sonata pian’e forte, published in 1597, which gives an example of the terraced dynamics of Baroque music. The work will be performed by the orchestra’s brass ensemble, divided into two choirs playing from different sides of the concert hall. Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber’s The Peasants’ Procession to Church describes the gathering of people in a church and the peasants’ dancing procession to the village tavern. The journey continues through Johann David Heinichen’s Concerto grosso and Antonio Vivaldi’s ever-wonderful Spring to a Baroque favourite, Georg Friedrich Händel’s joyful Water Music. Violinist Kreeta-Maria Kentala, who has received a wealth of awards and recognitions, is known as a pioneer of the Finnish early music movement and is at home as a soloist, conductor and pedagogue not only in Baroque, Classical and Romantic music, but also folk music.
