Sir Michael Tippett: Fantasy on a theme of Corelli
Andrea Tarrodi: Cello Concerto
Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy: Symphony No 4

The concert Living Green will take the audience to the highlands of Scotland and the green & gold sun-filled Italian countryside under the baton of Jessica Cottis, who is returning to Kuopio. One of Europe’s most interesting young cellists, Jakob Koranyi, will be the soloist, performing the cello concerto dedicated to Koranyi by Andrea Tarrodi. The piece has been inspired by the green hills and the tops of the steep cliffs of Scotland. The concerto also features strength and struggle, which can be seen in nature, but perhaps also in people’s minds.

Felix Mendessohn’s fourth symphony transports listeners to Italy, where the composer enjoyed itse sunny atmosphere and the arts before writing the symphony. The concert opens with Sir Michael Tippett’s Fantasy on a theme of Corelli, a piece travelling from darkness to light, commissioned by the Edinburgh Festival in 1953 in honor of Corelli’s 300th anniversary.

Duration approximately 1 hour 35 minutes, including interval.
