The programme reflects the major milestones and composers whose works have accompanied Pietari Inkinen throughout his career. Kuopio has been an important city for Pietari ever since he won the music prize here 26 years ago. Since then, the city has held a special place in his heart. He is very happy to be conducting the orchestra in Kuopio again after such a long time, especially in this special concert hall with its great acoustics.

As a Finnish conductor, Inkinen has a special relationship with Sibelius. During his time with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Japan Philharmonic, he recorded numerous CDs of music by Sibelius (including all the symphonies and other works). He was chief conductor of the Prague Symphony Orchestra and has extensive expertise in Czech repertoire. During his time as music director of the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, he made several recordings of works by Dvořák.
