Harmonica Ensemble Sväng

Sväng is a captivating phenomenon in the world of harmonica music: an ensemble of four virtuosos who blend folk, jazz, classical, and world music into a distinctive, energetic, and delightfully unpredictable whole. Internationally acclaimed, the group’s dazzling musicianship and infectious energy make every concert an unforgettable experience. Expect rhythm, swing, and sheer joy.

Svängfonia brings together the refined ensemble playing, distinctive sound, and musical works that the harmonica quartet Sväng has honed over its 20‑year international career, now merged with the rich colours of the orchestra. The leading theme of the concert is tango, but the musical journey crosses stylistic borders; alongside tangos, the programme features Sväng’s quirky original musical language, Balkan rhythms, polska, as well as Sibelius and Chopin.

The unique sound of four harmonicas combines humour, skill, and musical boldness – Sväng takes the listener on a journey where anything is possible and nothing sounds quite like you expect. The ensemble has proven that this outwardly modest instrument holds limitless possibilities. Their music weaves together artistic ambition and a touch of quintessential Kaurismäki‑style deadpan humour.

The leading theme of the concert is tango, but the musical journey crosses stylistic borders; alongside tangos, the programme features Sväng’s quirky original musical language, Balkan rhythms, polska, as well as Sibelius and Chopin. The orchestral arrangements of Sväng’s compositions are crafted by top‑tier experts in their field: Pessi Levanto, Marzi Nyman, Esko Grundström, Aili Järvelä, and Roope Mäenpää.
