The Imaginary Easter Passion concert represents a novel way of telling the musical narrative of Easter starting from Palm Sunday through the Sufferings of the Holy Week to the joy of Resurrection. Familiar and beloved classics are combined with new and never before heard sound landscapes. Respecting the somber, traditional and powerful subject there are also lighter tones, spontaneity and even a touch of momentum.

The concept has been designed for this particular concert by cembalist Matias Häkkinen. The musical numbers through the evening are a collection of orchestral passages, electro acoustic improvisation, song, modern day classics as well as renaissance and baroque music performed also with period instruments.

The programme includes, for example, arias from J.S. Bach’s St John Passion and Hallelujah from Georg Friedrich Händel’s Messiah of the Baroque period, as well as, for example, works by Gilles Binchois and Pierre de la Rue from the Renaissance period.
