Lauri Porra’s Cabins & Hideouts takes us by the lake and forest on 12th of May

The first performance of the orchestra version with KSO

The KSO’s online concert Lauri Porra: Cabins & Hideouts on Wednesday 12 May, 2021 at 7 pm is a meditative concert in which different sound landscapes take us to the nature. The work is composed by Lauri Porra, originally for a string quartet. This concert is the premiere for Porra’s new arrangement for strings, winds and percussion.

The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra’s online concert Lauri Porra: Cabins & Hideouts on Wednesday 12 May is a meditative concert in which different sound landscapes take us to the forest, the cottage and by the lake. In his composition Porra has captured the sounds at the cottage and the mood in the middle of a forest. Cabins & Hideouts is an hour-long concert that takes us to a journey through a day from morning to night and to a new sunrise. The combination of a concert and sound bath introduces us also to the sounds of nature, such as the song of a chaffinch and an arctic loon. The piece also includes improvisational parts.

Lauri Porra (born 1977) is a composer and a musician. As a composer he is known both for his works for symphony orchestras and several different film scores. His orchestral works have been performed by, for example, the Finnish Radio Symphony, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. As a musician Porra is known as the bassist in the renowned Finnish power metal band Stratovarius and his own Flyover Ensemble. In this composition Porra will not only play the bass, but also grand piano and zhengruan, and use various electronic devices and effects as well as lead the ensemble.

The concert includes a pre-recorded introduction video to the piece by Lauri Porra himself (spoken and subtitles in Finnish).

The online concert will be published on 12th of May on the KSO’s YouTube Channel and the KSO’s website.  The concert is available at the KSO’s YouTube Channel until the end of August 2021. The concert has been recorded in cooperation with Taustamarkkinat BGMT Oy.
