KSO continues streaming concerts

The KSO autumn season 2020 includes a great setting of Ludwig van Beethoven’s music to honor the master composer’s 250th anniversary. During the season KSO will perform among others all the piano concertos of the composer with Paavali Jumppanen. In addition KSO will stream concerts on YouTube again. To ensure the safety distances, max. 300 persons will be seated in the Concert Hall.

KSO starts the autumn season with a live streamed online concert 26th of August from the Kuopio Music Centre stage with young artists. The concert is part of I-Han Fu’s degree programme in conducting at the University of the Arts / Sibelius Academy. Violin soloist Essi Höglund won the 2nd prize in the latest Kuopio violin competition in the beginning of this year. The program includes Dvořak’s violin concerto and Schumann’s 4th symphony. Also the concert of KSO strings on 28th of August will be live streamed. The concert is a part of “Kuopio Juhlii” City Festival and the strings will perform evergreens from Finnish movie classics. The autumn season will be officially opened on Friday 4th of September when KSO is performing with conductor Atso Almila. Both 28th of August and 4th of September concerts are free for audience and max. 300 persons will be seated in the Concert Hall.

From September on the autumn season program of KSO is based strongly on the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven. On 17th of September KSO will perform the composer’s Pastoral symphony with conductor Eugene Tzigane. The starting number of the concert is an energetic concerto for string orchestra by Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz. During the autumn season Paavali Jumppanen will play all the Beethoven piano concertos in three concerts with the KSO. The anniversary continues in the Chamber Music Hall with Beethoven string quartets presented by Kamus quartet and Minna Lindgren.

The godchildren project of KSO continues in September and the same children’s programme will also be performed to families on 10th of September. In Metsä kutsuu kylään concert (Welcome to the Forest) poems by Eppu Nuotio are transformed into songs performed by Ulla Piispanen. This is only the second time that this music composed by Timo Klemettinen and arranged for a symphony orchestra by Jarkko Kiiski will be performed.

KSO also cooperates with the Kuopio Chamber Music Association during the autumn season to organize chamber concerts. The first one, Spanish night will be in restaurant Kummisetä’s Barn on 5th of September. On 19th of September in the Chamber Music Hall of Kuopio Music Centre the program includes a premiere of Adam Vilagi’s work. The concert on 25th of October in Puijo church consists of works for viola.

Due to the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 virus, KSO will publish more autumn concerts and programme information little by little later in the autumn season.
