Soprano Karita Mattila performs with KSO on 2nd and 3rd of September
Jaakko Kuusisto made new orchestrations of Sibelius’ songs for the concerts
One of the most sought-after operatic sopranos in the world, Karita Mattila will make her long-awaited appearance at the Kuopio Music Centre Concert Hall on the 2nd and the 3rd of September performing with the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra. She will be singing songs by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. The orchestra will play under the baton of its own Chief Conductor Jaakko Kuusisto who has also made new orchestrations for these beloved songs.
Opera Star Karita Mattila’s remarkable career includes outstanding roles in the world’s most important concert houses and opera productions. In Kuopio she will interpret nine songs of Jean Sibelius with the KSO. The orchestra in conducted by the Chief Conductor Jaakko Kuusisto who has made the new orchestrations for Sibelius’ songs. The arrangement work of the songs has been possible with the support of the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation.
The concert will start with Sibelius’ Pohjola’s Daughter and end with the Finnish Uuno Klami’s Kalevala Suite. Both pieces are based on the stories of the national epic of Karelia and Finland, Kalevala.
