Rising soloists on the stage with KSO

KSO concerts will also be streamed during October and November
KSO continues organizing concerts with interesting soloists in October and November. KSO will perform on the Concert Hall stage at the Kuopio Music Centre with the latest winner of Kuopio Violin Competition, Adrián Ibáñez-Resjan and a Finnish guru in recorder playing, Eero Saunamäki among others. The KSO programme includes both beloved favorites and rarities. To ensure the safety distances, max. 300 persons will be seated in the Concert Hall. In addition KSO concerts will be streamed on YouTube.
Interesting guests and celebrating composers
KSO continues organizing concerts with rising guests in October and November. On 22nd of October the KSO will introduce two remarkable Swedish music personalities: virtuoso and luminous Emil Jonason will play composer Emmy Lindström’s clarinet concerto premiered in 2016 – it will now be performed for the first time in Finland. On 29th of October the latest winner of the Kuopio Violin Competition, Adrián Ibáñez-Resjan will return on the Music Centre stage with the KSO. He will interpret an all time favorite, the Sibelius violin concerto. At the same concert the audience will meet again the internationally rising conductor, Emilia Hoving who will conduct a Brahms-influenced Serenade composed in 1890 by Ethel Smyth, one of the most important British composers of her time.
On 5th of November we will enjoy the vocals of baritone Kristian Lindroos who overwhelmingly won the Lappeenranta Singing Competition in 2016. He will perform Songs of Travel by Vaughan Williams. The concert is conducted by Kalle Kuusava. On 12th of November Eero Saunamäki, a recorder player known for his versatility, will arrive in Kuopio. He is also known for performing as a soloist of the Kaarti Combo at the Independence Day Reception of the President of the Republic of Finland. Saunamäki has presented the recorder in a new way and will perform Jukka Tiensuu’s Appo Recorder Concerto composed for him.
The celebration of the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven will also continue at the KSO concerts. On 22nd of October the master composer’s pontifical Leonore overture will be conducted by Johannes Gustavsson and on 12th of November we will enjoy Beethoven’s 4th symphony under the baton of Tomas Djupsjöbacka. At the same concert the orchestra will also honor the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Society of Finnish Composers.
Intermissions are back – familiar safety instructions are valid
From 22nd of October on most of the KSO concerts will again include intermissions. To ensure the safety distances, max. 300 persons will be seated in the Concert Hall. The safety instructions concerning for example good hand hygiene and safety distances are still valid. The orchestra also recommends its audience to use masks when attending its concerts at the Kuopio Music Centre. Masks can also be purchased at the Music Center ticket counter.
Restaurant Oodi is open for lunch on weekdays from 11 am to 2 pm. The café is open also before the performances, during the intermissions and before the performances without an intermission. For those who won’t be able to join the live performances, the KSO will offer live streamed concerts as an extra service. Above-mentioned concerts 22nd and 29th of October and 5th and 12th of November will be live streamed on the KSO YouTube channel and can be watched on the channel a week after each concert.
Well-known favorites and a film classic with KSO live accompaniment
If classical music is unfamiliar to you and you haven’t listened to it before, the concert on 19th of November is the right fit for you. The KSO will play beloved classical hits and all-time audience favorites. The programme includes, among others, the first movement of Beethoven’s 5th symphony with the famous fate-motif, one of Finland’s most popular wedding marches, the festive march from Sleeping Beauty composed by Erkki Melartin and the entrance piece of several rock bands, In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg. Conductor Atso Almila will also host the concert and introduce the pieces.
On 9th of December the Kuopio Music Centre Concert Hall is transformed to the biggest movie theatre in the city and the audience can enjoy a lovely and heartfelt classic Christmas time movie, Snowman with live accompaniment by the KSO. The award-winning film based on the story by Raymond Briggs has captivated audiences of all ages around the world. The boy vocalist in the song Walking in the Air will be Eetu Koistinen, 11, a previous goldchild of the KSO.
Chamber music will be played on 25th of October at the concert organized by Kuopio Chamber Music Association, KSO and Puijo church. The programme consists of works for viola.

Due to the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 virus, KSO will publish more concerts and programme information little by little. The concerts in the end of November and in December will be published later in the autumn season.
We recommend buying eTickets in advance: www.lippu.fi/en. If you shop at the Music Centre, we recommend using card and contactless payment. The Kuopio Music Centre Ticket Office is open on Mon-Fri from 3 pm to 5 pm or until the beginning of the performance and on weekends 1 hour before the beginning of the performance. Tickets to the events held at the Kuopio Music Centre may be purchased also at the Kuopio City Theatre (on performance days 2 hours prior to the performance, Fri from 12 am until 7 pm and Sat from 12 am until 6 pm), at Kuopio Info (Mon from 9 am until 5 pm, Tue-Thu from 9 am until 4 pm and Fri from 9 am until 3 pm), at Sokos Kuopio Department Store and other Lippupiste ticket outlets. In case customers get sick and therefore unable to attend the concerts, tickets to the KSO performances can be reimbursed at the latest 1 hour before the performance.
