Chief conductor Jaakko Kuusisto returns to conduct KSO

In December the KSO programme includes Finnish music from Jean Sibelius to Jaakko Kuusisto and Christmas music in Baroque style. The chief conductor of the KSO, Jaakko Kuusisto returns to Kuopio on 3rd of December. To ensure the safety distances, max. 300 persons will be seated in the Concert Hall.

On 3rd of December the KSO celebrates the Day of Finnish Music and the birthday of composer Jean Sibelius in the following week. The concert programme includes Finnish music from different time periods. As an overture we will hear Chamber music I by Aulis Sallinen from the year 1975. The master cellist, Arto Noras will interpret Jaakko Kuusisto’s fascinating cello concerto composed for Noras. Jean Sibelius’ popular 5th symphony from the year 1919 will end the concert.

On 9th of December the Kuopio Music Centre Concert Hall will transform into the biggest movie theatre in town where the audience can enjoy a lovely and heartfelt classic, an animated Christmas time movie called Snowman with live accompaniment by the KSO. The award-winning film based on the story by Raymond Briggs has captivated audiences of all ages around the world. The boy vocalist in the song Walking in the Air will be Eetu Koistinen, 11, a former godchild of the KSO.

On 14th of December we will enjoy the warmth and stories of Christmas time in Baroque style. The Most Beautiful Christmas Songs of Baroque concert organized by KSO and BarokkiKuopio includes beloved Christmas songs from the Baroque period played in Baroque style. In addition there will also be music from Händel and Charpentier among others. The musicians of the KSO, BarokkiKuopio and Ensemble Nylandia are led by cembalist Matias Häkkinen.

To ensure the safety distances, max. 300 persons will be seated in the Concert Hall also in December. The safety instructions concerning for example good hand hygiene and safety distances are still valid. The orchestra also recommends its audience to use masks when attending its concerts at the Kuopio Music Centre. Masks can also be purchased at the Music Center ticket counter. Restaurant Oodi is open for lunch on weekdays from 11 am to 2 pm. The café is open also before the performances, during the intermissions and before the performances without an intermission.
