College cooperation
The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra in cooperation with the Kuopio City Theatre and the University of Kuopio have since fall 2003 organized a cultural event "Kulttuuristartti" (free translation: Cultural Take-off) for students living and studying in Kuopio. The purpose of the event is to outline cultural establishments and happenings from different fields of culture in Kuopio for young students. Until fall 2005 the Kulttuuristartti event has been combined with a festival weekend for students called "Akateeminen startti" (free translation: Academic Take-off) which has been organized at the beginning of the academic year.
In the autumn 2003 the Kulttuuristartti event was held at the Kuopio Music Centre. The programme consisted of performances by the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra & its guest soloists (pianist Iiro Rantala and actor Martti Suosalo), the Kuopio City Theatre, the Kuopio University Theatre and a local band called Antigravity. The following year the event was held at the Kuopio City Theatre. The programme consisted of performances by the Kuopio City Theatre, the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra Chamber Ensemble, the Kuopio University Theatre and the the Antigravity band. In 2005 the KSO did not participate the event due to other engagements.
In all the Kulttuuristartti event has been accepted very positively among the students. The cooperation between the professional cultural establishments and amateurs has not only been successful but it has also shown the necessity of such cultural events.
The next Kulttuuristartti event is planned for autumn 2006, read more about it on our website later on. The KSO in cooperation with other cultural establishments of the city of Kuopio is also planning to expand and extend the cooperation to other educational establishments in Kuopio besides the University of Kuopio.
In addition the KSO also cooperates actively with the educational establishments working at the Kuopio Music Centre premises such as the Kuopio Conservatory, Sibelius Academy Kuopio Department as well as the Kuopio Academy of Music and Dance (Savonia University of Applied Sciences).
