Imaginary birds of an enchanted garden will sing at KSO's season concert on April 25th

On Thursday 25th of April we will enjoy singing of imaginary birds in a musical garden, when Finland's most famous recorder artist Eero Saunamäki interprets Kalevi Aho's recorder concerto celebrating his 75th anniversary. The KSO's season concert also includes Louise Farrenc's bold overture and Leevi Madetoja's bright 3rd symphony. The orchestra is led by conductor Sasha Mäkilä.

Mahler's masterful 9th symphony will be played in Kuopio on April 19th

On Friday 19th of April at the KSO's season concert, we will enjoy a rarely heard masterpiece in Kuopio, Gustav Mahler's 9th symphony. Together with the KSO, the Jyväskylä Sinfonia will perform on the stage. The massive ensemble is led by Eugene Tzigane.

Message of friendship will sound at KSO season concert on 28th of March

The KSO's Close Friends & Distant Lovers concert on the 28th of March at 6 pm starts with a double concerto, in which Johannes Brahms included a message of friendship to the violinist Joseph Joachim. The soloists of the concerto are violinist Anna-Liisa Bezrodny and cellist Jan-Erik Gustafsson. In addition, Anton Bruckner's 4th symphony, where you can hear knights riding horses and singing songs to maidens will be performed.

Meet the Musicians

The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra consists of 44 musicians. The KSO musicians represent well over 10 different nationalities and therefore the orchestra’s working language is English. The Chief Conductor of the KSO is Jaakko Kuusisto. Atso Almila acts as the Second Conductor. In 2010 professor and maestro Jorma Panula was appointed as the orchestra’s Honorary Conductor.

The Kuopio Symphony Orchestra wants to introduce various audience groups to the world of music by organizing diverse concerts and special events. The main point is to give artistic experiences, to increase public awareness and knowledge of orchestral music and other forms of art music and also to develop people’s cultural competence.
